Alligator Bites Man In Hand

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A five-foot-long alligator took a bite out of an Orlando man Sunday morning.

Daniel Hornock told wildlife officials he spotted the gator by his garage. When he went to put a rope around its neck, the alligator bit his hand.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers eventually captured the alligator, and said they plan to kill it.

Fish and Wildlife Officer Kat Kelley said the accident was preventable. Anytime anyone encounters a wild alligator they should call authorities rather than try to handle the situation themselves.

Alligator bites can be dangerous not only because they are painful, but also because an alligator's teeth are usually rife with infectious bacteria that can get into a person's blood stream.
